Grow Your Blog party!!

Welcome every one to the Grow Your Blog event organised by Vicki at

2bagsfull.blogspot.com.

This is a great event where you get to visit lots of new blogs and maybe make some new friends.

I am Pauline and I live in rural North Yorkshire in the UK.
I am retired after working as an Occupational Therapist for over 30 years and now get to spend a lot of my time in my sewing room using my wonderful Brother NV1e machine.

I have always been a "crafter" but fell in love with quilting and machine embroidery  about 10 years ago  and these are my main passions.  But I also crochet, knit and felt and also paint in watercolours.  You can see some of my quilts and also some of my paintings on the pages at the top of my blog.

As well as quilts I also love making bags - my daughter and her friends are more than happy to have a new bag so I always have a home for them.

I have been blogging for 4years and have really enjoyed making blogging friends  across the world in swaps and exchanges and also learning and developing my quilting and stitching skills from all the wonderful tutorials posted by other bloggers.  I have also collected a massive library of patterns and ideas which I will never have enough time to make!! I also spend too much time on my ipad browsing blogs and Pinterest and finding even more ideas I will never have time to  make.  LOL!

Like many quilters I have lots of UFO's and an ever growing fabric stash and  at the moment I am planning on starting  a new quilt for our guest  bedroom. I came across a Sawtooth quilt in a new Craftsy class I recently bought - oh yes did I mention - I love Craftsy!!

One of my recent machine embroidery projects was  a bed runner and  bed cushions for a friend of my Mum.  They have all seen the bedrunners I have made for her so I have had a steady stream of request to make similar ones for them over the past year.

I have recently finished this baby quilt for a new arrival expected in the family in April- this was from  the December issue of Australian Homespun   magazine - I am also a keen magazine subscriber - but don't tell my husband!!!!

One of my other  recent quilt finishes which I am proud of is the World Map which I made for a good friend's young grandson.  This was a large applique quilt which was from a pattern I found while "wandering the web" which makes it quite appropriate!

I also enjoy art quilting and textiles and making fibre postcards.

I belong to a couple of  on-line postcard groups and also join in with  swops organised by a blogging friend Sheila over in Nova Scotia. She blogs at "Sheila's Quilt World".    She organises  small swops a couple of times a year and currently we are working  on a Valentine themed swop.

As well as enjoying being a member of the on-line community I enjoy  belonging  to a great local quilt group- Mowbray Quilters.  I have  taken on the job of organising Weekend Quilt retreats for the group and we had two great weekends last year and have two planned for this year.  I recently completed a banner for the small Church where the quilt group meets and it is now hanging in the Church.

I also love knitting and  crocheting, particularly baby things, and especially while I'm  watching tv in the evenings and  have just finished a lovely blanket but this time it was for me - it is a pattern  by Lucy at Attic24.  This was the Cosy Blanket she designed for a crochet-along over the winter months and I have made this a lap sized one  for keeping my legs warm in the evenings when we are away in our caravan.

I have decided to have a GIVE-AWAY as I love give-aways myself so for a chance to win just leave me a comment telling me where in the world you are and what your favourite craft is.  I will draw the winner on the 15th February so come along and join in.  Please make sure I have a method of contacting you if you don't have your own blog.

This is the give-away prize package  -a copy of the latest editionof QuiltMaker's 100 Blocks plus a charm square pack and  a covered notebook.

So join in and visit lots of new blogs !!!

Thanks for stopping by

Pauline

  15. Hello Pauline

How lovely to meet you as part of Vicki's Grow Your Blog Party!

Your quilting is beautiful and I'm very taken with your 'Map of the World". It is wonderful to see New Zealand is on your map - thank you! We are so often forgotten!
Your baby quilt is stunning too.
I had quilting lessons many years ago but children and work got in the way, however I did a class last year and I'm making my daughter a Brigitte Giblin hexi bag for her birthday in June. I've subscribed to the quilt magazine 'Quiltmania' and Brigitte's work is sometimes in that, I also have her book!

I can see we have much in common Pauline and I have become a follower and will be back again once the party quietens down in a week or so!

I love your Giveaway - please pop over to my blog and say hello and join in my giveaway too!

    Enjoy the fun here

  16. Hi Pauline, I have added you on Bloglovin after a quick look around. You were right, lots in common. My cosy blanket is only half finished but I finished the Ripple blanket. One of the things about being of a certain age is that you have the time to develop new interests and a whole new world opens.
    Have a successful GYB party!
I think I may have machine envy!!!

  45. Hi Pauline. Wow! Your work is beautiful. You must be very busy to accomplish such a wide variety of projects. My current favourite craft is quilting but my first love is embroidery. I haven't tried machine embroidery yet, although my Bernina has the capacity to do it, as I enjoy hand stitching in the evenings when possible. I love the idea of fabric post cards having recently received one from a blogger in France. How do they travel in the post? Do you find that they get damaged at all or do you have a technique to make sure they are hardy enough to withstand the trip? Do you just attach a regular stamp to them or do you prefer to hand deliver them? I'm very curious and thinking they would be a great way to test out new threads, embroidery stitches and quilting before trying them in a major project. I'm looking forward to following your blog. Cheers, Tracy.

The name came from my previous profession as an occupational therapist - it's the emblem representing renewal after illness an the importance of creativity and productivity for self worth and happiness. My profession was so important to me and even in retirement I wnat to encourage others to maintain a healthy lifestyle and be creative. The heirlooms bit was because I hope the quilts I make will go on to be family treasures.
