Growing my Blog!!!

It was great to be included in the GRow Your Blog Party hosted by  Vicki at 2 Bags Full which continues for another two weeks. I have had  loads of lovely  comments and some people have signed up to follow but I have also been able to find lots of new blogs to follow as well.

BUT the last thing I need is to spend more  time on the internet looking at more ideas instead of sewing !

So One thing I wanted to finish off this week is my stitch compendium - where I have been making a
stitch-out of all the stitches on my machine.   I am lucky to have a Brother Nv1 and it is a great a machine but I suspect I have only scratched the surface of what it can do.

I have found so many lovely stitches I can't wait to use them on some projects - particularly crazy patches or bags. They look very different when stitched.

I have also finally got a new design wall !!
It is a large piece of insulation wall board which I have covered and it fits nicely behind the door but can also be laid flat for pinning out quilts.

I have also re-arranged my small quilts and wall hangings and have made a couple of miniature quilts this week while sitting in front of the fire in the living room keeping warm, as it has been so cold  here this week.

an Iris Folding  small quilt

I haven't posted a picture of my new bed runner yet
- it is braid quilt I designed to fit on the bottom of our bed -QUICK TO DO !

Then to finish off the week I won a give away !
It is  a  new DVD by Diane Doran - Digital Surface Design and I am looking forward to it arriving.

It has some great ideas for the use of Photoshop Elements for art quilts

Don't forget to visit the Blog Hop as there is still time to enter many of the give aways ( including mine!)

Grow Your Blog party!

Hi everyone - its Pauline here

I am participating in the Grow Your Blog hop hosted by  Vicki at   2 Bags Full  and I am happy to be posting today as part of the blog tour.

For those who do not know me I am a craft obsessed retired occupational therapist who believes passionately in the value of being creative for well-being and health.
(my current South African flower project )

I love to knit, crochet, embroider, paint and most of all  QUILT!

(Starry Hexagons - just started quilting)

I started about 10 years ago whilst I was still working  but after retiring 3 years ago  I can now  indulge myself with my hobbies and have made numerous quilts over the last 3 years  years which I have  given to friends and family. You can see some of my recent quilts and paintings  on the pages at the top of my blog.

(just added Prairie points to my Lakehouse Irish Rose quilt)

I belong to the Mowbray Quilt Group and I am currently organising our first Quilt Retreat in April which should be great fun.

Blogging has become an important part of my life and I have made some great new friends across the world and learnt so much from all of you in blogland !
I mostly  post pictures of what I am currently working on.

As my husband and I have a touring caravan we now spend as much time as we an  over the spring and summer travelling around the UK so I post some of my travel pics as well.  ( Our travels seem to take us very near to quilt shops which is a great coincidence - hee hee !!!)
Quilted landscape wall hanging made from one of my photographs of the Lake District

I have a give away to celebrate the blog hop -its a book about using up scraps ( which we all have so many of) and some fabric so leave a comment after visiting and I will draw a winner on the 15th February.

Good luck and thanks for stopping by

Happy new year !!!

Happy new year to everyone who stops by - I am just about back to normal after colds and coughs over Xmas and trying hard to get back up to speed.  The weather is still dreadful but we have not had it as bad as people living in the South of the UK with floods and lack of electricity or the severe snow storms in North America.

I had lots of nice goodies for Xmas from the family including some great quilting books and some fabric as well. So I have no excuse for not having any ideas and have already finished a cushion from one of the books I received.

The other BOM I have started is the Hexi Blog BOM and the first block was quick to do and reminds me of a snowflake .

I am using the Vilene quick screen grid which I came across at the Knitting and

stitching show last autumn- it is great to use instead of paper as you can leave it in for stability.

There are lots of BOM's and quilt alongs in blog land but I am trying to limit myself  but the the Quilt Show block of the month alphabet quilt has also tempted me as I think will be a good project for me when I'm at my monthly group.

Then I have a couple of WIP's to finish and I am planning on sticking to some small projects such as mini quilts, wall hangings and bags until I can get my 3 big quilts quilted and finished!!!

BUT I succumbed to a new app for my iPad and it might tempt me to start a new quilt - it's called
Quiltography and it's brilliant !!!!
I have considered it for a while but decided to give it a go and have spent all afternoon adding fabric so that I can use some of the Moda ready cuts I have saved up for special projects.

It's a great tool and so easy - I have Quilt pro 6 but this will be great for sitting in my chair with my iPad with my feet up instead of hunched over the PC .
This is a snap of the first quilt i did  in about 5 minutes after downloading it. You can easily import your fabrics so you get a good idea of  how a quilt will look very quickly.

But then this morning a new magazine arrived and I fell in love with the Chines Lanterns quilt which I feel tempted to do with my Rowan and Kaffe Fasset fAbrics.!!!!

So despite being full of the best intentions the projects are piling up already!!!

The Quilt retreat to Scarborough is going ahead and we have 16 signed up so that will be great to look forward to in April.

A good start to 2014 !!!!
