Competition Time

I decided to enter Arthur's Quilt in the Quilting Gallery weekly competiton this week as its for Baby Quilts and this is one I am most proud of. It was made for my best friend's first grand child and she wanted it to have giraffes on it and be green and yellow.

Jill and I have been friends for over 50 years - since we met on our first day at school and although during those years we have sometimes only been able to keep in touch very sparingly through work and family committments  whenever we do get together its just like old times and we can talk for hours!

So drop by Quilting Gallery this week and see all the lovely baby quilts and you might like to vote for mine!

River Whirl Finish

Just a quick up date as I finished off my River Whirl buggy/car seat  quilt from the pattern by Connie at Quilting by the River but changed it slightly and added an inner border.  I am really pleased at how effective it looks and quilted it with stippling plus flowery petal shapes in the whirls.  I will be deliverying it next week when I catch up with my friend for lunch.
I think this block would also look good on a larger size quilt so might try that BUT also saw a Bull's Eye quilt on Connie's blog so have that on my list aswell!!

I have also managed to do 4 rings of the bed topper - it is a great method from Sue Daley's new book - I think this is going to look really summery. It has hexi flowers in the centres of the rings. I think hexis are my latest obession!!

I've been inspired by so many of the comments left after the Leap Day Giveaway and have tried hard not to start too many new projects after following up all new blogs I found.  The one I could not resist was this one from Connie at Quilting by the River.  Her tutorial was so clear and easy to follow that it has come together in no time- I am making it as  a car seat/ buggy cover for another one of my friends new grand babies.

I used some KaffeFassett/ Westminster fabrics which I think will be bright and cheerful.

Connie's blog can be found here
Whirl Tutorial

I've also started an english paper piercing bed runner as a surprise for a  friend - I got the book at the Scottish Spring Quilt Event and started straight away cutting out the templates and fabric.  Again I was able to use up some in my stash so feeling quite virtuous this weekend ( after spending in Scotland!!!)

This is lovely new book by Sue Daley and has some great ideas for fast projects using hexagons etc.- especially useful for doing whilst watching TV - particularly all these scandanvian crime thrillers on british TV at the moment!
I've also finished my folder for my swap partner Sabine in Cheryll's Let's Exchange - which is for a notebook/journal cover.   This is another pattern from the Edinburgh Show - one of Anja Townrow's patterns. Again this was a great pattern and I have another one of a sunflower still to do.

And finally I was tempted to try a painted quilt so have drawn out a pattern   called Tulip Delight by Esther Aliu  and I've used coloured pencils with  textile medium and its been really interesting so far- it will make a lovely bed throw if I can get it finished.  This just the first part - it is over 5 foot long !

So lots to report and lots of lovely new blogs to follow !!

Congratulations to the Winners!

It was an amazing day yesterday with lots of bloggers entering the Leap Day Give Away hosted by   Elizabeth at   Such a Sew and Sew.     I think I shall be doing a give away again as it was such a great way getting to know new people and of finding new blogs of interest.

So to the RESULTS!!!!,

I  used the Randon Number Generator and the  the winner of the 1st Give Away is

SHARON  from Vrooman Quilts!!!!!

She has been one of my most loyal follows since I started blogging so I am really   excited that she has won.  I do hope she  likes the package of goodies I've included.

The 2nd Give away of the applique books and fabric  was VERY popular  and goes to  Connie from Quilting By the River   so I hope she enjoys exploring the applique package.

And as an added surprise I decided to add in an extra giveaway as there was such a massive response so there is another book Cottage Charms and a pack of charm squares going to   Lisa at In the Boon Docks.
